What Is the BetMGM Premier League of Darts? Format, Points System & Prize Money Explained

The Premier League of Darts, sponsored by BetMGM, is a non-ranking major televised event featuring eight of the world’s best darts players, who face off weekly at venues across the UK and Europe, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation.

The tournament gets underway on Thursday, 6th February at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle and will continue every Thursday night for 17 weeks, culminating in Finals Night on May 28th at the O2 Arena in London.

This will be the 22nd edition of the tournament and will adopt the same format first introduced in 2022. Initially, there will be 16 nights, each consisting of a knockout tournament between the eight players. All matches during the league stage will be played over the best of 11 legs.

Throughout the first seven weeks, the players are guaranteed to meet each opponent once in the quarter-finals, with those match-ups repeated again between weeks 9 and 15. Weeks 8 and 16 differ, as the draw for those nights is based on the players’ respective league positions at the time (e.g., 1st vs 8th, 2nd vs 7th, etc).

Players receive points for wins, which contribute to the overall league table. Two points are awarded for a quarter-final win, one point for a semi-final win, and two points for winning the final, meaning the overall nightly winner will collect the maximum of five points.

After Week 16 concludes in Sheffield, the top four players in the table will contend for the Premier League title at Finals Night the following week.

On Finals Night, the knockout semi-finals will be played over the best of 19 legs, with 1st playing 4th and 2nd playing 3rd. The semi-final winners will then face off in the showpiece final later the same evening, contested over the best of 21 legs, to decide who lifts the 2026 BetMGM Premier League Darts Trophy.
