Premier League Night 14 Preview: Home Favourite Humphries Eyes Play-Offs as Leeds Hosts Night 14

Just three regular nights of the Premier League remain, and the Leeds Arena plays host to Night 14.

Home favourite Luke Humphries will be aiming to close in on a play-off spot in front of the Leeds faithful.

'Cool Hand', the reigning Premier League Champion, has reached Finals Night on both of his previous appearances and sits just two points outside the top four with three nights remaining.

The World Number 2 has spent only two weeks inside the play-off places this season, but may be timing his run perfectly to keep his title defence alive.

Elsewhere, Luke Littler and Jonny Clayton have stormed clear of the chasing pack.

The pair have already sealed qualification for Finals Night, having shared nine of the thirteen nightly victories between them.

Meanwhile, Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen occupy the final two play-off spots.

Price picked up a crucial two points in Aberdeen last week to open up a five-point gap, and has been an ever-present in the top four since Night 2 in Antwerp.

Gian van Veen and Luke Humphries remain the closest challengers, but at this stage, points matter more than performances in the race to reach London.

Further down the table, Stephen Bunting and Josh Rock sit 7th and 8th respectively, and while not mathematically impossible, it would take a remarkable run of results for either to reach Finals Night on 28 May.

Last week in Aberdeen, World Number 1 Luke Littler secured his fifth nightly victory to reclaim top spot from Clayton, continuing to push to break his own records for both points and nightly wins in this format.

Humphries also impressed, picking up three valuable points on his run to the final, defeating play-off rivals Michael van Gerwen and Gian van Veen before narrowly losing 6-5 to Littler.

A more methodical version of Humphries, slightly slowing his throwing action in search of more control, proved effective and could be key heading into Leeds.

The opener in Leeds pits the Welsh World Cup-winning duo against each other.

Clayton, already qualified for the O2, still has a realistic chance of claiming top spot in the league phase for the second time in his career - sitting just two points behind Littler.

Price, meanwhile, has been an ever-present inside the top four since Night 2 in Antwerp and holds a five-point gap over the chasing pack.

'The Iceman' also boasts a dominant head-to-head record against his fellow Welshman, although Clayton ended a 10-game losing streak between the pair on Night 3 in Glasgow earlier this season.

Price has since won their last two meetings on the Pro Tour and UK Open, as well as defeating Clayton 5-1 in an exhibition in Oldham over the weekend.

With 'The Ferret' already confirmed for the O2, he may be in "on the beach' mode, and given Price's head-to-head record and the need for points to secure his place in London, he looks to have the edge.

Prediction: Gerwyn Price 6-3 Jonny Clayton

After a fruitful past three weeks, picking up 13 points with two nightly wins and one final, 'The Nuke' has surged to the summit.

Now firmly in afterburners mode, Littler has set his sights on breaking both the points record (45) and nightly wins record (6), both set by himself.

He has already claimed five nightly victories and sits 11 points short of his record tally.

The back-to-back World Champion has topped the table in both previous campaigns and is on course to do so again, as he bids to reclaim the Premier League trophy he won on debut in 2024.

Michael van Gerwen, by contrast, made a lightning-fast start, picking up eight points across the opening two nights, but has since added just 10 points from the following 11.

Despite that inconsistency, the 7-time Premier League champion remains inside the top four, holding a narrow two-point cushion over van Veen and Humphries.

The Dutchman won their meeting on Night 2 in Antwerp, but has since lost the last three encounters, including a 107.54 average in Liverpool - his highest of the campaign that still ended in a 6-5 defeat.

Last week in Aberdeen, Littler looked composed in securing another nightly win, while van Gerwen averaged just 91.02 in a 6-3 loss to Humphries.

Given Littler's current form and their recent meetings, it is difficult to look beyond a fourth consecutive win for the table topper.

Prediction: Luke Littler 6-2 Michael van Gerwen

The third quarter-final sees eighth take on sixth, with the reigning champion chasing a play-off spot - and a third Leeds nightly victory in as many years.

'Cool Hand' won four nights on debut in 2024, and three last season, finishing second in the league phase on both occasions.

Remarkably, he is yet to register a nightly win this year, despite reaching finals in Nottingham and Aberdeen.

Humphries holds the second-highest tournament average (100.50), but his checkout percentage of 37.26% ranks sixth, showcasing his downfall in failing to convert strong performances into points.

He has admitted his timing has been slightly off, despite producing a higher average than in previous campaigns.

Josh Rock, meanwhile, endured a difficult start to his debut season, losing his opening seven matches.

However, after breaking his duck in Berlin, he won three consecutive quarter-finals across Nights 9-11.

Any realistic play-off push has already faded, and failure to capitalise beyond the semi-finals, coupled with early exits in Liverpool and Aberdeen, has effectively ended his chances.

While qualification looks unlikely, Rock remains just three points behind Stephen Bunting in seventh, with avoiding bottom spot a clear possibility.

Despite Humphries' stronger numbers and flawless record in Leeds, Rock has put in big 100+ averages at times, and could prove a spoiler in the 'Cool Hand' top four charge.

Prediction: Josh Rock 6-4 Luke Humphries

The final quarter-final sees 'The Giant' take on 'The Bullet'.

The Dutchman sits just two points outside the top four, having been an ever-present in the top four across the opening six nights before a withdrawal due to kidney stones.

Since returning, he has picked up seven points and remains firmly in contention for the O2, including another run to the final in Manchester.

His level has steadily improved in recent weeks, and he looks a genuine threat to sneak into the play-off places.

For Bunting, however, hopes of qualification are disappearing. He sits seven points adrift with just three nights remaining, and while not mathematically impossible, it appears highly unlikely.

'The Bullet' has spent much of the campaign between sixth and seventh place, aside from his Night 4 victory in Belfast.

Outside of that victory, the 2024 Masters champion has collected just six points across the other 12 nights - a return that has left him well short of the pace required for the play-offs.

Despite boasting a higher tournament average than van Veen, Bunting's Achilles' heel has been his inability to convert good performances into points.

In contrast, the back-to-back World Youth champion has shown maturity beyond his years to close out matches and keep himself in contention.

Prediction: Gian van Veen 6-3 Stephen Bunting

Semi-Final & Final Predictions / League Table Implications

Based on those predictions, the semi-finals in Leeds would be:

  • Gerwyn Price vs Luke Littler

  • Josh Rock vs Gian van Veen

Littler's form is difficult to ignore - 13 points across the last three nights, and I expect him to reach another final.

Since losing to Price in Bahrain in their first meeting of 2026, he has won eight consecutive matches, including six in the Premier League.

On the other side of the draw, van Veen looks well placed to reach a fifth nightly final of the campaign, given his improved form.

That would set up another meeting between Littler and van Veen, with the Dutchman having won both previous encounters this season, including that dramatic showdown on Littler's home night.

However, I expect 'The Nuke' to get his revenge in Leeds, securing a sixth nightly victory to match his record in this format and claim a third consecutive win.

This result would further strengthen his grip on top spot, while a run to the final for van Veen would prove enough for him to move into the play-off places heading into the final two nights.
