Over a quarter of the way through the Premier League season, we head to the Welsh capital for Night 5 at the Utilita Arena.
Cardiff brings an extra narrative this week, as both Welsh representatives, Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price, sit in opposite halves of the draw, opening the possibility of a home-soil final.
The two-time World Cup-winning duo occupy play-off positions heading into Cardiff, Clayton leads in 1st, with Price in 4th. Elsewhere, debutant Gian van Veen impressively sits 2nd, while seven-time Premier League champion Michael van Gerwen completes the top four in 3rd.

Last time out in Belfast, Stephen Bunting surged into 5th after a winless opening three nights. The Bullet impressed across the evening, averaging 106 in consecutive matches to reach the final before dispatching Gian van Veen.
A quarter of the way through the travelling roadshow, the World’s No.1 and No.2 have yet to reach a final this campaign, sitting 7th and 6th respectively.
Both Luke Littler and Luke Humphries have four points so far, though neither has built momentum. Humphries holds the highest tournament average and is playing at a consistently high level.
At the foot of the table, debutant Josh Rock is yet to find his feet. He is pointless so far and has yet to show his levels on the Premier League stage.
Quarter-Final 1: Michael van Gerwen vs Luke Humphries
Player | League Position | Points | Nights Won | Tournament Average | Checkout Percentage | H2H Record (Wins) |
Michael van Gerwen | 3rd | 8 | 1 | 96.56 | 43.18% (38/88) | 17 |
Luke Humphries | 6th | 4 | 0 | 103.25 | 33.33% (28/84) | 16 |
The curtain-raiser on Night 5 pits seven-time Premier League champion Michael van Gerwen against reigning Premier League champion Luke Humphries.
Van Gerwen started the season strongly, claiming eight points from the opening two nights, winning in Newcastle and runner-up in Antwerp. He has struggled since, withdrawing from Night 3 in Glasgow due to illness and losing 6-5 to Gerwyn Price in Belfast. Despite this, he remains inside the play-off spots with eight points.
Humphries has just two victories in four nights, one of which required him to survive match darts against Price on opening night. Yet he boasts the highest running average of any player so far (103.25) and has registered 26 maximums, tied with league leader Jonny Clayton despite playing three fewer games.
If Humphries continues this level of scoring, the close results that have gone against him are likely to swing his way. Maintaining this form gives him every chance of navigating through the top half of the draw and reaching his first Premier League final of the campaign.
Quarter-Final 2: Jonny Clayton vs Gian van Veen
Player | League Position | Points | Nights Won | Tournament Average | Checkout Percentage | H2H Record (Wins) |
Jonny Clayton | 1st | 11 | 1 | 99.40 | 48.91% (45/92) | 3 |
Gian van Veen | 2nd | 9 | 0 | 97.17 | 42.98% (49/114) | 3 |
After a two-year hiatus, Premier League life has been fruitful for The Ferret once again. In his three previous appearances, Clayton has made the play-offs every time, winning the title in 2021 and topping the table in 2022.
He currently leads the 2025 table with 11 points, winning his opening match on all four occasions, the only player with a perfect record so far, as well as a Night 3 victory in Glasgow to reach the top.
Clayton’s Cardiff record is not great. In 2020, he was thrashed 7-1 by Michael Smith as a challenger. In 2022, he lost 6-1 to Peter Wright in the final, and in 2023, he fell 6-3 to Smith again.
His opponent, debutant Gian van Veen, has had a near-perfect start. The reigning European Champion sits 2nd with nine points after reaching three finals in four nights. A win here would draw him level with Clayton on 11 points.
Van Veen has impressed by winning games even when not at his best. He ranks 6th for his tournament average yet is 2nd in the table, a sign of his ability to grind out results.
Clayton will have the full backing of a partisan Cardiff crowd, but van Veen has already shown he can handle hostile environments, brushing aside 9-dart hero Josh Rock in Belfast last week.
Quarter-Final 3: Gerwyn Price vs Stephen Bunting
Player | League Position | Points | Nights Won | Tournament Average | Checkout Percentage | H2H Record (Wins) |
Gerwyn Price | 4th | 7 | 1 | 98.48 | 43.53% (37/85) | 14 |
Stephen Bunting | 5th | 5 | 1 | 100.99 | 46.55% (27/58) | 9 |
The third quarter-final sees fourth against fifth, with former world champion Gerwyn Price hunting a second nightly victory in Cardiff.
The Iceman has had a solid start to his campaign, winning two of his four quarter-finals, including a Night 2 victory in Antwerp, placing him 4th and on track for the play-offs.
Price’s Cardiff record is mixed, though. In the current format, he reached back-to-back finals in 2023 and 2024, winning in 2023, but lost his opening games in 2022 and 2025. In the old format, he played three times with a record of one win, one draw, and one loss, showing that it is unpredictable which Price will turn up in front of his home crowd.
Bunting surged to 5th after a dominant Belfast victory, having gone winless in his opening three nights. That result was both a psychological boost and crucial for the league table, preventing a repeat of last season when he went until Night 9 for his first win.
The Bullet had performed strongly in earlier nights despite results not reflecting it, last week, he converted performances into points. He now holds the second-highest tournament average, giving him confidence as he takes on Wales’ most successful player in front of a hostile home crowd, which will be a tough test.
Quarter-Final 4: Luke Littler vs Josh Rock
Player | League Position | Points | Nights Won | Tournament Average | Checkout Percentage | H2H Record (Wins) |
Luke Littler | 7th | 4 | 0 | 98.29 | 30.51% (18/59) | 5 |
Josh Rock | 8th | 0 | 0 | 91.62 | 29.63% (8/27) | 0 |
The final quarter-final is a 7th vs 8th clash, being unpredictable but with massive potential.
World No.1 Luke Littler finds himself in 7th place on just four points, a position he can consider fortunate. The Nuke picked up two points from MvG’s withdrawal in Glasgow and two from defeating Humphries in Antwerp after surviving multiple match darts. Having topped the league phase in both of his Premier League outings, to find himself here is unfamiliar territory for the teenage sensation.
His current tournament average of 98.29 is solid, but below the 100+ he has regularly posted to make him untouchable in this format. You would expect it to click soon, and the 2024 Premier League champion could surge up the table.
For Josh Rock, the numbers do not make for good reading. The Northern Irishman hit a nine-darter in Belfast last week, but still lost 6-2, his fourth consecutive defeat by that scoreline. His 91.62 tournament average is the lowest in the field, and he is in urgent need of points and performances to settle into his debut campaign.
Rocky’s record against Littler also does not make for good reading, having lost all five meetings. In 2026, Littler has an aggregate legs score of 14-2. While this is the most unpredictable contest of the evening, if both click, it could also prove the most explosive, given their scoring power.
Prediction
Both Welsh representatives, Clayton and Price, are in opposite halves of the draw, making an all-Welsh final in Cardiff a possibility. Based on current form and the underlying numbers, though, a different final feels more likely.
Luke Humphries is posting the highest tournament average so far, and that level of performance cannot go unnoticed. Reaching his first final feels imminent if he maintains it.
On the other side, Gerwyn Price looks set to come through. Like Humphries, he is playing at a consistently high level in both the Pro Tour and Premier League. Combined with his experience winning on home soil and the Cardiff crowd behind him, that could prove pivotal.
Price will edge a high-quality final in Cardiff, defeating Humphries 6-3 and surge to the top spot in the league.
