Tuchel Criticizes Wembley Fans After Underwhelming Atmosphere During 3-0 Rout over Wales

Updated: Oct 29, 2025

“The stadium was silent. Silent.”

England’s head coach Thomas Tuchel pulled no punches after England’s ruthless 3-0 victory over Wales at Wembley Stadium. However, he had mixed emotions, with some frustrations being aimed at the home supporters.

A first-half 20-minute blitz that blew the visitors away saw England score three times through Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins and Bukayo Saka, effectively killing the clash in the process. Still, Tuchel was left disappointed by the underwhelming atmosphere inside his side’s national stadium.

“I think the players delivered a lot to get more from the stands,” Tuchel told ITV Sport. “What more can you give them? Twenty minutes, three goals. The way we attacked Wales, and we didn’t let them escape. If you hear for half an hour, it was just Wales fans. It’s a bit sad.”

Tuchel was quick to set out his appreciation for English football and their fan culture; however, was adamant that his team’s performance today deserved more noise, more energy and more appreciation after dismantling their bitter rivals on home soil.

“I love English football and I love English football fans and the support they give,” he said. “But I think the atmosphere did not match the performance on the field.”

The German compared the fans’ support today to their most recent away fixture in Serbia, stating how the support was much more vocal and supportive.

“We were 3-0 up after 20 minutes, we had ball win after ball win after ball win, and I felt like, why is the roof still on the stadium?”

Tuchel was quick to add that his side would continue to give the England fans something to get behind and believe in as they build towards what they hope will be World Cup glory in North America in July 2026.

“We will do everything again to be infectious. There’s no problem. I’m sure we will get everyone going, it is on us.”

England have now won six of their seven games under Tuchel and will look to maintain their perfect record under him in  World Cup qualifying on Tuesday in Riga. They have played five, won five, scoring 13 and conceding none so far.
