Cardiff City Player Ratings vs Wrexham

Cardiff City claimed the bragging rights in this North vs South Wales clash with a deserving 2-1 victory over Wrexham. Will Fish’s late volley landed the Bluebirds' name into the hat for the last 8 draw of the EFL cup.

Rubin Colwill starred in an impressive all-round away performance from Barry-Murphy's young side, who continue to show improvement and maturity beyond their years.

Here are my Cardiff City player ratings out of 10:

Nathan Trott (7) - Composed in possession and intelligent with his distribution. Rarely tested but could have done better in dealing with the deflected cross that led to the Kieffer Moore equaliser.

Ronan Kpakio (7) - Strong link-up play with both Omari Kellyman and later Isaak Davies, providing the width on the outside. Should have scored with a close-range header in the first half while his attacking involvement faded after the break. Was booked for a tactical foul in the second half but showed great versatility after switching to left-back late on.

Will Fish (8.5) - Outstanding at both ends of the pitch. Defensively strong, making key blocks but also composed in possession, while landing his first Cardiff goal with a fine first-time volley to win the match.

Calum Chambers (7.5) - A solid showing from the captain. Commanded the defensive line effectively and was dominant in his aerial duels for the most part. Slightly caught under the ball for Moore’s goal, though Trott could have helped him out there. However, did well to restrict the amount of clear-cut chances Wrexham had.

Joel Bagan (8) - A dependable performer once again. Strong in his duels and comfortable in possession, while his excellent cross from deep set up Fish’s winning goal. Withdrawn late on for injury protection after yet another consistent display.

Ryan Wintle (6.5) - Not his strongest game, but still offered control at the base of midfield. Kept the game ticking nicely and sent a couple of efforts on goal, whistling wide of the target. Replaced after 66 minutes.

Joel Colwill (7) - Worked tirelessly in midfield and pressed with real intensity. Helped drive Cardiff up the pitch and combined well with Kellyman and Kpakio in the first half. His influence waned after the interval before being substituted.

Rubin Colwill (9) - Man of the Match – A performance of real maturity from the vice-captain. Calm and composed under pressure, consistently making the right choices and leading Cardiff’s press with authority. Carried the ball forward confidently and created multiple chances for teammates. A classy, dominant display from a young man coming of age this season.

Omari Kellyman (7.5) - Quite possibly his most assured all-round display since joining the club. A consistent threat down the right with his close control and dribbling ability. Linked seamlessly with Kpakio in the first half and could have found himself on the scoresheet having a couple of efforts saved before being withdrawn at half-time as a precaution.

Cian Ashford (7.5) - A persistent outlet on the left flank. Combined well with R Colwill and was neat and tidy on the ball. Struck the crossbar with a powerful effort in the first half and worked tirelessly off the ball to support Bagan defensively. Substituted late on as Barry-Murphy opted to switch to a back 5.

Yousef Salech (8) - A ruthless centre-forward display. Held the ball up magnificently, linked play well, and showed striker's movement throughout. Took his goal instinctively, following up a Kellyman saved effort and unsettled Conor Coady and George Thomason in the Wrexham defence all evening.

Subs

Isaak Davies (7.5) - Replaced Kellyman at the interval and maintained that strong attacking threat down the right side. His raw pace caused real problems for Wrexham’s defence, while his relentless pressing and strong delivery added a spark. Tested the keeper late on with a fierce effort from range.

Alex Robertson (7) - A welcome addition back into the Cardiff midfield. Brought calm and control in midfield. Picked out the right passes to drive the team forward and was combative off it to help see out the game. Received a booking late on for a late challenge on George Dobson.

David Turnbull (6.5) - Kept things simple in possession and retained it well, though offered little attacking threat. Nevertheless, a steady cameo from the Scotsman.

Perry Ng (7) - Was brought on in the 82nd minute and slotted in with ease. Solid in possession and played a clever lofted ball to send Davies through on goal. Won a vital free-kick late on to relieve some pressure,

Gabriel Osho (N/A) - Featured briefly after the tactical switch to a back five and wasn’t on long enough to rate fairly.
